Late Summer Adventures

It is  my favorite time of year; September. Where summer and fall collide in a crisp morning, warm afternoon kind of way. The cool evenings allow for more adventuring, and there is just enough light to enjoy an adventure before it gets dark. I spent some time up in Okanogan County this week. I’ve fallen in love with this gorgeous place and have been plotting how to uproot my current life and plop it on down somewhere up there. Here are a few beautiful things found.

Rainforest

Quiet. Calm. Green. Fresh.I love the Pacific Northwest.

Here are a few shots from a recent little walk up to Marymere Falls on a warm summer evening. This is an easy hike with easy access off of Highway 101 at Crescent Lake.  Park near the ranger station and follow the trail.  You will be greeted by towering trees, moss as far as the eye can see, and that awesome hallow trail sound with every step.

The Best Coast

Saltwater, sailboats, sunshine. I’ve been really lucky lately. I went from one coast to the other, and managed to do so and less than 12 hours. I never took my camera out during my southern adventure this weekend, but chose instead, to take it totally in. I am spending the week on the Olympic Peninsula. The warm-and-brisk-at-the-same-time salty air feels incredible. Mid-Week Retreat

I’ve been working. A lot. So has the Handsome.  He managed to swing vacation this week which he deserved and needed so much.  Knowing I couldn’t take a whole week off, I opted for a mini break from my hectic schedule.

We took to the woods for an overnight and midweek recharge and retreat.  With such short notice and a very busy holiday weekend ahead of us, we stayed close to home and stayed at Millersylvania State Park.  Staying mid week, we almost had the entire campground to ourselves. We had our girls in tow, so we didn’t take to the lake on the canoes/kayaks, but did managed to let them paddle near the shore for a bit. We love to camp. Our dogs love to camp. The smell of the forest is healing and refreshing. We had a great camp fire, chatted, and heard every bird in what seemed within a mile radius. It was the perfect way to slow down and catch up with each other.

The Rain Forest

I’ve been feeling stir-crazy with all of the rain in the past few weeks.  I should know better, after all, I live in the rain forest. To remedy the crazy, the handsome and I took to the trails of Burfoot Park to get some much needed green time and a little fresh air. Our dogs were thrilled to play in the sound and splash in the mud.  We were happy to have a little sun-break and the forest all to ourselves.

At the Coast

There’s this summer song that comes to mind when I get a chance to hear waves while I sit in the sunshine. It’s by The Avett Brothers– appropriately named ” At the Beach.”

I was fortunate enough to enjoy the sand, the wind, and the sunsets of Washington’s Long Beach for a few days last week.  My day-time hours were filled with a lot of day-job work, but the evenings were filled with free time and the chance to explore. I hiked around Cape Disappointment to feast my eyes on Washington’s best lighthouses (that I frankly had no idea existed.)

I splurged on delicious seafood and local brew, thanks to the sunny beach-side view of The Pickled Fish, and walked for miles up and down the sand playing with every dog that passed. I browsed and chatted at the adorable Wooden Horse gift shop and had the best roasted almonds of my life during an evening walk on the beach.  I missed most of the Kite Festivities from getting out after 5:30, but the beach by itself was just the therapy I needed.

Photographing the Photographer

I scheduled a session with some lovely ladies to capture some shots for a local perfume maker to highligh “beauty”.  The weather didn’t cooperate for us.  I had to reschedule, and today was the perfect day for a session. Unfortunately, no one was available on such short notice, so I took matters into my own hands to grab a few shots.

I recently purchased a few staples for the ol’ camera- a tripod and a remote.  Total puchase: $43.68 thanks to the clearance rack.

Normally,  I’m not one to take photos of myself, but given the “assignment” I wanted to try out my new gear.  The sun was just right. So was my mood. Maybe it isn’t so bad to come out from behind the camera every now and then.
